Live status for 30 Spanish beaches powered by the Open-Meteo Marine model: water temperature, significant wave height, period, wind and our 0-10 beach index. Today's top 10 calculated automatically.
WhatAWeather provides detailed beach forecasts for Spain's most visited beaches, grouped into six coastal arcs: Cantabrian, Galician Atlantic, Andalusian Atlantic, Mediterranean, Balearic Islands and Canary Islands. Meteorological data come from the global ICON and ECMWF models served by Open-Meteo, while sea surface temperature and waves are sourced from the ECMWF WAM model at 0.25-degree resolution.
Our beach index combines six weighted variables so you can decide at a glance whether it is worth heading to the beach: air temperature (best above 22 °C), water temperature (best above 20 °C), wind speed (best below 20 km/h), wave height (best below 0.8 m), cloud cover (best below 30 %) and accumulated rainfall (best below 0.5 mm). The result reads as Perfect (8-10), Good (6-8), Acceptable (4-6) or Avoid (under 4).
We also show informational notices for jellyfish (correlated with water above 23 °C and easterly winds), extreme UV index and dangerous waves. For official microbiological water quality consult the NAYADE system run by the Spanish Ministry of Health, which publishes weekly results of the bathing water control network. WhatAWeather's forecast is informational and should be complemented with official information from the Red Cross, Maritime Rescue (Salvamento Marítimo) and coastal city councils. In case of emergency the single number is 112.
